Leading Briton, Ian Poulter who is on level par has slammed the USGA, as play was suspended on the eve of the US Golf Open 2009. This was because rain had flooded a number of greens. The United States Golf Association has told players that they will not be allowed to clean and place their golf balls, even though all the mud has now been picked up from the fairways.
According to The Telegraph Poulter had said, “It’s a schoolboy error. We have said that over the last couple of days. The balls are picking up big clumps of mud. I understand the reasons but common sense should prevail.” The players were told that when the rains stops they might be able to play, but then one hour later, play had been canceled.
Ian Poulter did add that it is not nice to knock officials, but he went on to say that the USGA defy common sense. It is not certain how long we will have to wait for play, as rain is forecast for the next few days. Do you think the USGA was right to suspend play?
