Comments on: Paul McCartney to get Michael Jackson’s Beatles publishing rights

A question I would like to know, a couple weeks after Michel Jackson’s death Paul Mccartney sang a song for a credit card and also in other commercials,so who does he pay now for the publishing rights to the songs or who did Jackson give his Beetle publishing rights to?

First JZ… Paul & Yoko were bidding TOGETHER, not against each other.
Second Mike… Paul was worth almost a quarter billion at the time. Fact is, Michael was WEALTHIER and actually OVER bid for the rights. Something Paul & Yoko didn\’t expect. Within only a few years, MJ\’s over bid made perfect sense.

Little known fact ….Michael Jackson was also known as TJ to some of his closest friends which is short for ThrillieJean or ThrillyJean…… a reference to the Thriller/ Billie Jean era of his career.

In fact this isn’t true. Michael didn’t leave his share of the rights to Paul, though he once spoke of doing so.

Considering the man “whinging” was one of the men who wrote the songs I think he’s got every right to complain. Also at the time of Michael buying the songs he was also meant to be a friend of Maccas, and surely if you knew a friend wanted to buy their own songs back you wouldn’t get in the way?

As for Yoko, I think she’s got as much right as Macca to have the rights to the songs. She is the widow of John Lennon after all.

jz you are wrong, the rights should always have belonged to mccartney. He was not individually weathly enough at the period they came up for sale, he was devastated not to have the rights and didnt play a beatles song live for many years, which is our loss. Of course now he is incredibly rich and jackson had nothing when he died. Glad the rights are coming home

Check your facts. Michael Jackson merged ATV with Sony back in 1995, selling them a 50% share of the publishing rights to all of the Lennon/McCartney songs. It is impossible for Jackson to leave McCartney any more than his remaining 50% share. And beyond that, he’s borrowed against that 50% two-fold since ‘95.

Hey, it’s better to pay MJ than to pay Yoko, isn’t it Paul? It’s not MJ’s fault that the rights were up for sale in the first place. Things have a funny way of working out, so now, when you’re older and really need the money more…it is yours again (and not Yoko’s). Time to let go of your hurts PM. Time to be happy and grateful. MJ certainly needed the income the last few years with the things he had to deal with, being wrongfully accused twice. Now you’ve got the bag.
