America’s Got Talent 2009: Kevin Skinner

Now that “America’s Got Talent” is underway, we are again starting to see the weird and wonderful acts that appear on stage, trying their hardest to impress judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osborne and David Hasselhoff. And apparently last night was no exception.

But this time it wasn’t so much of the weird that impressed the judges, it was the wonderful. According to rightcelebrity.com, last night saw chicken catcher Kevin Skinner, blow the judges away with his performance of the Garth Brooks song “If Tomorrow Never Comes.”

America’s Got Talent 2009: Kevin Skinner

Kevin was apparently the last audition of the day and when he walked out on stage, the judges just looked. Kevin was dressed quite plainly with jeans and a baseball cap worn backwards. And then he started to sing. David Hasselhoff was even seen saying “Wow.”

Being from Kentucky myself – I have never been so proud of someone I didn’t know in my life. I sat there as they were making light of Mr. Skinner getting angrier by the min. and then WOW – he showed them that being country isn’t all bad! You go Mr. Skinner – you were great and you keep catching those chickens, but leave the mucking for the ridiculers. PROUD to be from Kentucky!!!

justin love with the true american character that kevin skinner showed. his song sent my heart a flutter and the tears came very quickly.he deserves to be the winner. what a wonderful person he is. very true to his music.

  • Lorena

I’ve loved country music since the mid-1950s. I haven’t heard anyone this authentic since Emmylou did Blue Kentucky Girl. He has a voice that tears your heart out when he sings. (Reference to “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes?” George Jones)

  • Missyann

Heis one of the best singers i have ever heard. He has such a wonderful stage presence. I hope he wins the whole contest. Oh and one more thing I LOVE his accent. He is a wonderful man.

  • Don Ferguson

After many years of cheap designed music it is soooo refreshing to see the real deal! The whole world wants and needs this guy to heal all as much as Obama! Let it have him and all the truth and realness he exudes.

Watched America’s Got Talent for the first time last night, and loved this plain chicken catcher for just how plain and honest he is. Can’t say the same for the audience and the MC and the Judges! My daughter, Sister-in-law and myself each watched from our homes, and we were just downright appalled at the BAD behavior of the fans, and those running the show. USA, I’d be ashamed if I was you! Is that the image you want to project to the world? No wonder other countries hate the USA for their arrogance!
The SPCA lobbies against cruelty to animals, someone needs to do the same for BAD TV shows and audiences!

Someone quick: tell those judges: “YOU AIN’T GOT NO CLASS!” People have feelings, and they deserve praise for trying, not derision and put-downs!

Kevin Skinner has a fabulous talent, but he also has class. I would also buy any music he has available. I only hope that someone with some integrity will get involved in his career…. maybe Dolly Parton. She knows the business and has the connections.

  • Jan

I’ve been in Nashville 21 years. I am from Mayfield, Ky. I don’t know Kevin Skinner but if I can find any gigs he is doing when I’m in KY, I will be there. Absolutely wonderful voice. Good luck to you Kevin and God Bless You.

  • Mickey

I have been watching for a while and I have been touched by a few performances in the past (last year Eli Matson). But last night with Kevin Skinner was totally different he moved me so deeply. I have listened to country music my whole life and that man was born to sing country. What I liked most was his sincerity, he was not there to sell his down on luck story just to show America what he could do and he did it very well. Someone needs to tell the jerk(Wes)on the Bachelorette that Kevin Skinner is a singer, he( Wes) doesn’t even come close to this guy!!

  • Tim

I certainly hope he has two more songs he can do equally as well. One for the semi-finals and one for the finals.

  • Teresa

What a beautiful voice. He sang with such emotion it brought tears to my eyes. Hope he wins.

  • Bjorka

Kevin Skinner is absolutely amazing. I was so touched by his singing that I sat and cried and cried, in fact, I think he had all of the USA and Canada in tears that night. WOW…I would buy his music in a heartbeat!! I told my husband that this is the kind of person that deserves to win. He is so down to earth and works hard for every penny that he earns…..not all of us are lucky enough to be born into money where your dreams are “easy” to obtain (even if the ones with money don’t have talent – they seem to achieve it anyways). Kevin, you are absolutely an amazing talent and I want to wish you the very very best and I hope that all your dreams come true. YOU ARE GOING TO WIN THIS!!! Can’t wait for your music to go on sale!!

  • tim

Kevin Skinner. Stay true to yourself brother. And find a circle of advisors you love and trust to see you through. You are about to be pulled in many directions. Your true circle will help and keep you safe. Best of luck and God bless you man!

Kevin Skinner is the best! I hope he gets a cd out soon and tour dates, I would love to see him. His voice just blew me away. I have been a country fan for a long time, and it’s nice to see a natural born country singer grace our tv screens. Just a beautiful voice. Does anyone know where he will be in the next couple of weeks?? Good Luck to you Kevin we are all pulling for you!!!!!

  • Samantha

Truly AWESOME!! I’ve watched him 3 times now and his singing is so emotional and he just fantastic. Half the audience had tears in their eyes when he finished his song. He’s the kind of person I’d love to see win.

    Kentucky’s Got Talent.

I am so proud of Kevin. He lives in Mayfield, Kentucky just a stones throw from Paducah, Kentucky where I reside.

Glad he got laid off the the Chicken Processing Plant he was working at, now we get to here his awesome voice.

Where do those guys think Kentucky Fried Chicken comes from?

    Kentucky of Course…

  • Judy

I am not usually one that listens to Country music, but since hearing Kevin’s voice I am a big fan of his. I can hardly wait to hear more of his voice and his music. Best of Luck, Kevin!!

  • cyndi

  • Melissa

I am not a country fan, but I LOVED this guy, and wished he could have sung for a longer period of time. Kevin, definitely, has talent! Also, he is such a sweet-natured person. BEST OF LUCK TO KEVIN!

  • Deborah

After watching Kevin’s first performance, I was hooked. Not only by his humbleness, but by his voice, delivery, presence and genuineness as a human being. I cried listening to him, and then again watching HIM cry offstage(on subsequent video clips). Not a day has gone by since his appearance that I haven’t at some point googled him again, just to smile, and HOPE within my heart that he woos the judges and audiences again and again. Even if he doesn’t win the contest, SOMEONE has GOT to pick up on his talent. He’s amazing! You’ve just got to love the guy!

  • mama j

kevin think hard if you want that kind of life son. it will destroy every thing good about you . look at the tabloids it not worth it. stay close to god and your family and leave the world to it ‘s oun destruction. you do have a good voice thank god and use it for his glory.

  • Ruth

I actually thought Skinner was really good. Unique voice, did the song very well, and played the guitar extremely well.

  • Jimmy C.

So many times, we the people of Kentucky, have been portrayed as dumb hillbillies and hicks. As Kevin walked onto the stage and began speaking, everyone in the audience and judges as well had that look in their eyes and on their face. Way to go Kevin. You showed the world once again that we are just as humble and as human and as gifted as the rest of the people in this world. Never judge anyone by their looks or the way they talk, they may just prove you wrong with their heart and sole. Thank you Kevin.

  • Casey

Skinner man is awesome, but I just have to say that the cheesy music after every performer gets good news or bad news is really starting to tick me off… its just too much

  • Patrice

I love him he is pure

  • Debra J Morefield

  • Paula Castleberry

Kevin you touched my heart and brought tears. God Bless you, and I hope you win but if not I know your will go far now that the world has heard you.

By the way I loved hearing the young black man who did “Old Man River”, what happened to him he was supposed to be on this week, instead of the Lake Houston Dancers.
