Bastille Day 2009: French Revolution Celebrated

Today is July 14, 2009 and is Bastille Day 2009. This is a huge holiday for the people of France, but is also celebrated in other parts of the world. Bastille Day is celebrated for the start of the French Revolution back in 1789. In that year of July 14, French citizens decided to take up arms and storm the Bastille Fortress.

This fortress housed the political opponents to the French government. The French citizens looked at this as their first victory against what they felt was a corrupt government. This was when the French Revolution began.

There are a number of things that French people do to celebrate the holiday, but it is the kids who get to have the most fun. There are so many activities that they can partake in, such as reading about the history, taking part in crafts as well as watching some great movies.
