UFC 100: Shane Carwin reacts to Brock Lesnar win

Saturday night’s UFC 100 fight between Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar and one in which Brock Lesnar defeated Frank Mir, has definitely had no shortage of mixed reactions. And Brock’s behavior following the fight, has also got everyone talking.

And according to ESPN, one man in particular has wanted to give his opinion across. Shane Carwin, who is also a Mixed Martial Arts fighter, posted a blog entry on to his website Sunday, telling people that Brock’s behavior was lame.

Apparently, Brock’s behavior included flipping off the crowd and getting right into Mir’s face. It was clear by the blog, that Carwin wasn’t too impressed. Shane is due to take on Cain Velasquez on October 24th, for the privilege to fight Lesnar at a later date.

Carwin is a huge, athletic, and intelligent fighter. I hope he gets a shot at the title.

The only real arguments I have heard about Carwin are that his college wrestling credentials are not as impressive as Brock Lesnar’s. Yes, he is a NCAA Division II National wrestling champion and Lesnar won his title in Division I, but as for college wrestling that doesn’t mean a whole lot. For example, Tervel Dlagnev, a former Division II heavyweight had wins in college over Division I National Champion Dustin Fox, and recently beat Steve Mocco (former 2 time NCAA DI Champ and Olympian) for the U.S. World Team spot.

My main point here: Arguing the DI v. DII bit for an MMA fight is ridiculous.

It would be nice to see a classy heavyweight MMA fighter with the belt. Carwin is just that, a man with class. Lesnar, albeit a beast of a man (pre and post steroids), is still an act. If his goal is to promote himself as a jerk, he’s doing a fine job with it. Personally, I hope Carwin shuts him up and brings some dignity back to the heavyweight class.

Shane Carwin, who won the interim heavyweight championship by defeating Frank Mir at UFC 111, will face current heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. The two were originally set to face each other at UFC 106, before Shane Carwin won the interim heavyweight championship, but Brock Lesnar pulled out of the fight due to an illness that kept him from training.
