Yesterday saw the 17th annual ESPY Awards take place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, with actor Samuel L. Jackson as its host. And according to examiner.com, last night saw Tiger Woods’ five-year reign as Best Male Athlete end, as Olympic champion Michael Phelps took the 2009 title.
And that wasn’t the only award Phelps won, as he also took home the Best Record-Breaking Performance, Best Championship Performance and Best Male Olympian awards. And Cleveland Cavaliers’ star player LeBron James was also honored with the award for Best NBA Player.

The Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow won the 2009 Best College Athlete Award, which now makes him the only 2-time winner in the category, with his first win being in 2008. Jimmie Johnson was given the award for Best Driver and Larry Fitzgerald was given the Best NFL Player award.
