British Open 2009: No rain or wind

Golf fans will be happy as the 2009 British Open has started today and this year, play is at the Ailsa course in Turnberry, Ayrshire in Scotland. And all the golfers may well have prepared themselves for wind and rain, but so far there’s been neither.

According to Reuters, it was believed that the conditions would be wet and windy and the scoring would be tough, but it’s been quite the opposite. Last year, Irishman Padraig Harrington retained the Claret Jug in Birkdale, even after battling the elements.

So with all the sunny weather, it could well make for a birdie fest, which golf fans have become accustomed to on a PGA Tour. The Ailsa course is normally known for its blustery conditions, that allows spectators to see just how good the best players have to be.
