Gold Cup 2009 Final: US vs. Mexico

Last night saw the final game of the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, between the U.S and Mexico. The sell out crowd of nearly 80,000 people sat and watched, as the U.S Men’s National Team were beaten by Mexico 5-0 at the Giants Stadium.

According to ussoccer.com, it has been a memorable journey to the final for the U.S team. This year was their third consecutive Gold Cup final and their seventh appearance overall. It seemed as though the U.S had the better play in the first half.

But that was soon cut short, when the Jamaican referee awarded Mexico a penalty kick in the 55th minute. That changed things with play and Mexico went on to win 5-0. The U.S’s loss to Mexico, is their first loss to a CONCACAF opponent at home in 58 games.
