Sir Bobby Robson Dies Aged 76 After Battle with Cancer

Sir Bobby Robson, the former England captain has died at the age of 76 after losing his fight against cancer. Robson was a well-liked and respected man in football and the sport has suffered a great loss. The great man had also been at the helm of Sporting Lisbon, Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven and Porto.

Bobby Robson has been battling cancer for the past 15 years, this lead him to set up the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, this was so that they could help with earlier detection and treatment of cancer. His final public appearance was on Sunday at St James’ Park.

Thousands of fans had gathered to help support his charity and to help raise funds. Sky Sports reports that a statement issued on behalf of Robson’s family said, “It is with great sadness that it has been announced today that Sir Bobby Robson has lost his long and courageous battle with cancer.” The statement went on to say, “He died very peacefully this morning at his home in County Durham with his wife and family beside him.”
