Adam Lambert is anything but subtle

Singer Adam Lambert has always been anything but subtle, in the way he dresses and his personality. But that is not necessarily a bad thing. And it seems to have worked for him, as he now has thousands of fans from all across the globe.

According to gossip.ie, when 27-year old Adam first auditioned for “American Idol,” the audience, judges and viewers couldn’t help but notice his spiky hair, his dark guyliner and his darker fingernail polish and he wasn’t prepared to tone down.

And for that reason, Adam didn’t think he was going to get very far in the competition. But Adam, who described himself as a little more alternative, went on to impress everyone week by week and finally became the season 8 runner-up behind Kris Allen.

    I LOVE YOU ADAM!

That doesn’t make sense. I have seen Adam’s audition numerous time including the one where he starts with the MJ song, and I thought he didn’t have the nail polish. If he had eyeliner, it was so subtle that it wasn’t apparent. And his hair was pretty standard. Nothing was flashy about him except that gorgeous voice. So, I’m not sure what you’re talking about.

During Adam’s audition, he appeared no different than guys I see on the streets of Madison, Wisconsin. What set him apart was obviously that voice, plus his charm. His appearance was quite toned down. I’m always surprised when people seem to find him so shocking and wonder if they ever leave their homes and look around them. It’s not the 1950s and not everyone looks like Richie Cunningham any more.

  4. Jmac says:

Adam does have a lot of style and is amazingly gorgeous, but honestly it is his phenomenal talent that sets him appart!! He has a voice from heaven and such a stage presence that it blows your mind. He can hold an audience in the palm of his hand and in complete awe. Adam is just remarkable.

  5. Dorena says:

I don’t think people realized Adam was very alternative until he sang Ring of Fire. At that point Adam let everyone know he wasn’t a run of the mill contestant. Adam has it all: a charismatic personality oozing with charm, sexy looks and a gorgeous, dynamic voice.

  6. MM says:

Don’t quite understand your comments. I saw much more than that back in Seattle in the early 80’s. People must not get out that much! I love Adam as the total package. Sincere, infinately charming and just oozing the IT Factor! Love his voice, it is so amazing.

When i first saw Adam, I thought he was weird, and i’m not sure if I like him. When he sang Black & White, I was totally stunned by his performance, and kept watching him in youtube. I was more stunned on the performace before this B & W, which is the Satisfaction. Week AFter Week, I was so excited to see him. then I notice how handsome he is. I felt devastated when I learned he was a gay. But then I can’t help liking him & still continue reading about him, watching him, googling him. His charisma, is irristable.

  8. Angel says:

ADAM captured me from his audition because he is so handsome just gorgeous then he sang Bohemian Rhapsody. WOW! And this gorgeous boy CAN sing! I was hooked. Heard his Some Kind of Wonderful and I was in awe. Told myself he is no ordinary singer, This guy is intense and with passion. Then he delivered Satisfaction and first time I heard him wail. Got me excited. Next was Black and White and I was just blown away!!! I think I watched that video dozens times a day, everyday after that. I know then ADAM is phenomenal. The rest is history. He is a legend in the making.

  9. Kareen says:

Adam is very comfortable in his own skin and doesn’t seem to care what others think and I like that about him.

  10. Marilyn says:

Have you watched Adam’s audition? He was not wearing makeup, or spiked hair or nail polish. His singing is what stood out. And it still does. Luv you Adam. Saw you in Vancouver, you’re the best!!!

  11. media bias says:

I hate the press AND the internet. Idiot blogger, Adam Lambert was wearing NO nailpolish or guyliner at his audition. He was wearing an everyday outfit without even having his hair done it was just hanging there like other guys. Dopes.

  12. Regina says:

    Love Adam!

  13. Lee says:

What posters here have said about Adam’s appearance at his audition is absolutely correct. He was handsome, charming, and sang like no one else. Like so many others, he got me from “hello.” Definitely has something that cannot be learned – that incredible “IT” factor.

  14. terie says:

ADAM’S hair was long-ish and soft looking … NO nail polish … guyliner? … maybe but it was so subtle that it was unnoticeable (at least not to me) … but his VOICE … now THAT stood out … I was hoping they would let him sing more … it was over much too soon. ADAM had ME from HELLO … go back to Ytube and watch the video again!

  15. magsmagenta says:

Adam is one of thos rare performers who doesn’t need all the over the top dressing to stand out as brilliant, but who loves to do that anyway. I love both versions, the dressed down and the dressed up, both have their place and Adam is brilliant at choosing what is right at the time.

  16. Sheba says:

Where did you get that Adam had makeup and nail polish on the auditon? Before you write, you have to get your info straight! He stood out because he has an amazing voice…. Also, If you look at the audition tape, which is easy to find, you will see how SWEET and Humble he was. he is a TRUE star. Adam deserves this stardom. He prove that he dosn’t NEED the title. Adam you are the BEST. take care of yourself.

  17. By his own admission, Adam did “tone it down” during auditions, not wearing his earrings, etc…he used the right strategy all the way through and unfolded his various styles as he progressed to each new round. Adam is super intelligent and knew that to remain on AI, he would have to keep from alienating “middle America” and keep from being eliminated. Brilliantly done Adam! In the end, Adam (and therefore, the world!) got what they wanted. Adam isn’t an Amercian Idol. He is an Iternational Icon.He may be immitated but will never be duplicated! ROCK ON ADAM!
