Joan Rivers: Comedy Central Roast Recap

Last night saw the “Comedy Central Roast” of comedian Joan Rivers and although Joan was the ideal subject for the roast, she may well have proved tricky. After all, she has spent decades making fun of herself, so it may not seem so bad when it’s someone else mocking her.

According to avclub.com, it was fellow comedian Kathy Griffin that got the job as roastmaster on last night’s show. And apparently, she did a great job at it too. And some of the roasters included Greg Giraldo, Tom Arnold, Robin Quivers and Carl Reiner, as well as a few others.

Joan Rivers: Comedy Central Roast Recap

Greg Giraldo, who apparently did a great job of his roasting, was followed by Mario Cantone. The highlights of the show were very few and far between and overall, it appeared to be rather disappointing. Did you watch it last night and if you did, what did you think?

I was aghast as per viewing the most distasteful and obnoxious presentation of the guests presentation of demising Joan’s female organs and the four letter words that were constantly used F–K. I was amazed that she didn’t leave the stage and held her tears back from embarrrassment

The roast was excellent. Joan liked it and I liked it. If you didn’t like it there was nothing from changing the channel.

Good taste is not a requirement of society. Hearing Mr Reiner drop the C bomb was legendary.

FOUL HAG Whitney Cummings did a t-cell joke at Mario Cantone….NO ONE LAUGHED.

I’d never seen this Cummings sow, and I’m just FINE never seeing her again.

If people are truly offended by the humor on this particular roast, then they are probably unaware that this is the NORM.

This show is famous for it’s guttoral, low-brow humor and the comedians often try to one-up each other on how offensive they can be.

The biggest problem I had with this episode was that it simply wasn’t very funny. Where was Lisa Lampanelli? There were several sets that were mediocre at best: Mario Cantone, Tom Arnold, Donald Trump, Don Rickles (one of my favorite all-time comedians), Carl Reiner, Robin Quivers…were simply not very funny.

I watched it and my response was simply ‘meh’. If I wanted to book a comedian then I would probably be avoiding the acts who were on here. I like my stand up comedians to make me laugh and then think. I guess it wasn’t offensive enough for my taste! Not my cup of tea for a comedy night I’m afraid.
