Miley Cyrus Pole Dance: Billy Ray Defends

Since Miley Cyrus performed that shocking pole dance at the Teen Choice Awards (watch video), the young singer has come under a lot of criticism, most of which from Disney. Cyrus has to try to keep Disney happy, as it is they who are her main source of income from her Hannah Montana show. Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus has defended his daughter’s performance.

MTV reports that Billy said, “You know what? I just think that Miley loves entertaining people,” Billy Ray told Access Hollywood. “She loves singing [and] songwriting.” He has always told his kids to do what is right, he added that it does not matter what other people think.

In his words, he said, “I always tell her to love what you’re doing and stay focused for the love of the art and not worry so much about opinion.” He has been telling UsMagazine.com that he has never been one to inhibit his kids with their creative and artistic expressions.

A few days after Miley Cyrus had performed her pole dance they issued a statement, saying that what she did on stage was nothing to do with the network.
