IHC Movie 2012: Clever marketing to increase ticket sales

More on the IHC Movie saga now that has been ongoing for quite some time. It has been reported that ‘The Institute for Human Continuity’ is nothing but a hoax and is designed to increase sales for upcoming Sony Pictures film ’2012′.

As reported from Examiner, 2012 is scheduled to release in theaters on 19th November, and is another of those ‘end of the world’ type movies.

IHC Movie 2012: Clever marketing to increase ticket sales

The IHC viral marketing strategy has come in for criticism lately, as some believe it has taken things too far, particularly with the lottery number scam that materialized recently.

On the other hand, you could see it as a clever marketing ploy by Sony and an ideal way to engage interest before the release of this movie.

Take a look at the full article over at Examiner and let us know your thoughts on it.

Clever is an understatement. Their “IHC” is genius. People are already paranoid enough as it is about the 2012 myth. Thats right-myth. There are a variety of things happening on this planet and in this gaxlay. Many of the world’s oldest, most influential and most powerful point to a time when the world will actually come to a point of destruction. For all those seeking answers, I urge you to study the material. The business of fraud and deceit is what powers this man made earth.

The IHC is a fantastic way to market the movie 2012; the “election,” is genius… Think about it; I post myself on someone’s facebook, a bunch of people see my post on their feed, they may find it interesting and post on their site which a bunch of other people see….. Eventually you have directly reached 100,000 people of your target audience for pennies…

You say too far, I say not far enough.

Pttb. End of the world. Yeah right.

Just a movie scam, but a damn good one. Had me thinking they were serious for the first 10 seconds until I went to the website. I’m here thinking “Are they really serious?” But, this is a good excuse for it.

I forgot all about that movie. I think they are taking it too far…

  • kevin gabel

    hey everyone gets this comment
i believe its an unbelievably crazy way to advertise the new movie
i mean that they have a lottery for humans to survive
a scam which deceives the average consumer. i believe they are going too far with this and its not fair to alot of people who are watching it. moreover, its not fair to people who blindly believe it.

  • Manda

I feel this is VERY misleading… Almost like false advertising! It should not be aloud!

  • ZGreen

If you know anything about the mayan calendar and the false rumors of all the supposed doomsday events of 2012 it’s clear that the commercial is either a scam or a movie advertisement. I was pretty relieved that it was for a movie, I’d be pretty pissed if it was a huge scam where they actually took people’s money. If you go to the site look for ocoac, wonder what that’s about. At any rate I don’t appreciate cheap advertising tactics and I am not going to see the movie.

I think this is insane. Yes, good marketing but think about the people who see these and go into panic. there are already people freaking out about this. They should make it more obvious that it is for a movie. espesially when they are airing this on CHILDREN tv stations.

  • bruce meads

    Come on people,

It says “sony pictures” below the ad.

Anybody who gets fooled by this needs
to turn off the tv and go back to talk radio

  • Rick g

i like how they advertise i think its ku .. 4 those getting mad about it .. i think their juss mad cuz they believed it .. but 4 those who think 2012 is a myth all of it is not actually a myth .. we are suppose to get severe heat waves that hit the earth .. people who dont want to believe it i think r juss scared to actually think of something like that happening in their life .. i juss hope it doesnt do anything 2 catastrophic 2 our earth

  • Aussy

Omg, yeah that should not be allowed. I straight up thought it was foreal! Yeah, I was one of those who went into panic… Searching for the website and everything. And plus, I don’t think they’d have any applicant be the leader of the world! And that’s really messed up that there’s an effing lottery to survive. Whaaatev.

  • Emily

Although we believe the most that will happen in 2012 is shoddy cell phone reception and the pretty northern lights this far south, my husband and I saw this ad and said “they can’t be serious.”. I’m glad to find out they weren’t, but the ad is so real I believe it could frighten many people. For this reason I think they’ve taken it too far.

  • Steven

I saw the IHc commercial and was like, no way all the movies in the past were right about us living in colonies because the world was destroyed. But then i saw the commercial again and saw in the small print “this film has not yet been rated.” My brother is the one that brought it to my attention and at first it scared me but then i realized the connection with that and the movie 2012. Hopefully making movies about the world ending wont taunt the world from actually ending!
Having that IHC commercial could have the same effect on people as the when War of the Worlds was first broadcasted, and we all know how that went down! So yea they gone a lil to far to sell some tickets…

  • Shannon

I think it is brilliant. If not for the big Sony film logo shown before the promo starts, I would have fallen for it. Very convincing. I saw it on Syfy Network. Makes me interested in finding out more about the movie. If you are stupid enough to actually fall for and then get mad because you did, suck it up and get over it. It’s not the first time an advertisement looked like it was selling something it wasn’t.

  • Chele

    Brilliant!

  • Corey

That’s a brilliant marketing scheme. A bit far – if you’re listening off in the distance and miss the SONY ad on it, like me. But it seemed too far-fetched to me, so I went to the website (which wouldn’t load properly) then wikipedia and found out it was infact fake.

But I can see this sparking panic in a lot of people… Aren’t there laws against making people think they’re going to die? We can’t do it when interrogating terrorists, but we can do it to the average tv viewer? Geez, terrorists get all the breaks.

I knew people wouldent understand about this movie 2012. But the movie is based on Scientific evidence, Nobody trying to Scare anyone just trying to help people understand what could happen. Sence 1983 to 2009 sizmic activity increased 400% Last 16 years Our climate has increased by one degree, That means we will have 30 feet sea level rise. In Louisiana their losing 5 arces a day due to sea level rise. This is just one of over a hundred this going on all over the world.

  • Corey

There’s no doubting that the planet is changing, and not in a good way. Yes, there is a lot of evidence pointing to 2012 being a GENERAL timeframe of when **** really starts to hit the fan. But this “IHC” website talks of Planet Nibiru (X) passing through Earth’s orbit, Earth’s crust breaking away, and all that good stuff which isn’t too likely (not the planet x thing anyway).

But again, on a marketing standpoint… The ad is brilliant. Kind of like that “District 9″ teaser, which they made look like a real (but far-fetched) commercial.

  • jane noob

i thought this was real. when i watched the movie on the website i cried!!! i’m no where near ready for the end.
this is a BS scam and i think everyone else who is as outraged as i am needs to get together and riot outside of Sony!!!!! end of the world my ass.

  • Kane

On the one hand the movie is informative and will at the very least make some people such as myself more conscious, as the Maya predicted that we will be thrusted into an age of enlightenment following the events.

On the other hand I believe many people will become fanatical about it in a destructive way. It could lead to anti-social behaviors such as self-isolation, violence, looting, etc.

I predict this because I know of some people who are so crazy, they think their house will blow up if the stove is left on without a pot of soup on it.

  • MBk

For some, the t.v ad may be a rather disconcerting certainty of the near future. But it really is nothing more then an already-been-done advertising technic. Kia lead into the campange for the new Soul with a similar technic. The ads used to be on u tube.

  • Lauren

IHC is promoting its movie in a similar way that was done by radio back a long time ago. Remember the Martian invasion story? A lot of people killed themselves thinking it was the end of the world. They need to be careful with their marketing strategies.

I signed up for the IHC lottery just for fun.

  • http://hahahahaha.com john

have you been to thier website? It’s so much fun!!!!! :D

  • Kevin Miller

does this remind anyone else of the commercial stuff in the wall-e movie? it just makes me lol to be honest

  • kimie

I love it. It looks so real. I thought are these people serious? I don’t think they took it to far it’s brilliant. If some people want to blindly believe it their going to believe it with or without the website. Look at Y2K. Some people thrive on doom and gloom.

  • SARA

To all of the close minded ppl and the “too sensitive” that feel “offended” by this – get over yourselves!! I thought this was brilliant and put a smile to my face knowing those weak individuals believing it was real would cry about it! HA!

  • jbaby

i think the mayans ran out of ink to continue

  • Sheryl

I know a few people who were fooled. I told them it was a movie. Had a hard time getting them to believe me? They all asked how do you know? Told them: I seen the (R) rating at the end of the commercial.
    It did get my attention.
    Silly folks

  • Alexandra

But what if it really is real? I have seen Planet X myself through a telescope here in Austrailia at the space science institute where I work. It does seem to be getting closer by the month and is oribitted by several small satellite planets.

  • Sarah.

I think it’s a far from intelligent idea. Sure it bring people to the attention but it’s also scaring a countless amount of people from watching it, due to being scared. There should be signs on the website that this is not real. The lottery idea was far beyond right. Actually getting a PIN number and what else. This is dumb and needs to be removed from being aired on TV and the website should be taken down.
