UFC 102: Results of watching awful violence

We have a very interesting article for you to read now, which comes from Oregon Live. While the majority of fans will have enjoyed all the action from last night, the Oregon’s sports columnist has given us a different take on his views on what happened at the Rose Garden.

In the article, one fight in particular from last night’s UFC 102 card stood out from the rest. This was the Chris Tuchscherer and Gabriel Gonzaga fight, which we have reported on earlier here.

From John Canzano’s point of view, this fight took things a step too far as a direct kick to the groin, battered face and bloodied hair was just another indication of the moral issues that surround UFC.

According to Canzano, the fight was so brutal that one of the UFC cameramen had to wipe blood of his face that had been spattered onto him.

Did you watch the Tuchscherer and Gonzaza fight? If so, what are your thoughts on what happened? Do you think the UFC rules and regulations need to be examined again before it starts causing deaths?

The UFC has the best referees in the business. It is there job to stop the fight if a fighter is not intelligently defending themselves, if they have a cut that is seriously hindering there ability to react etc. There are also board certified medical doctors on hand to give the refs their opinion as too whether the fight should continue. The athletes fighting in the UFC are among the best and well trained in the world, not just at MMA but regarding all sports. They live, breath and sleep fighting. This is what they enjoy doing. No one has to watch MMA, but they need to recognize that the athletes in the octagon as well as die-hard fans such as myself love, yes love this sport. It is a sport, and no one has the right to take that sport away by destroying it with laws. Of course, everyone has the right to write, what I consider, blasphemy as John Canzano did after witnessing the Gonzaga vs Tuchscherer fight. He did not even finish watching the rest of the fights after witnessing this fight. He went into the Rose Garden with intentions of smearing the UFC and MMA name all over the pavement on his way out of the arena. I think his words hurt a sport and a culture that is desperately trying to overcome the mistakes made 10 to 15 years ago while the UFC was under different ownership and had few, if any, rules. Dana White and his colleagues have done all they can to protect the fighter while keeping the sport #1 in Pay-Per-View event sales. The sport needs the support of larger corporate sponsors, and until John Canzano stops ruining the sport for potential fans the UFC will continue to struggle for that support that it needs to become the next accepted sport in America and all over the world. Next time John Canzano tries to enter an MMA event, he needs to be stopped at the door, he is poison to the sport that I love.
