Despite having a left knee injury, third seeded Venus Williams still managed to defeat her opponent Vera Dushevina of Russia, in Monday’s opening game of the 2009 US Open tennis tournament. And according to Associated Press, Venus described it as “one of those great New York moments.”
The game went on for 2 hours and 43 minutes, until Venus took the victory. She was trailing by a set and a break in the second, but then she rallied for a 6-7 (5), 7-5 and 6-3 win over Dushevina. Venus didn’t want to talk about her knee trouble, which brought on a 9-minute injury timeout in the first set.

At one stage, Venus had fell behind 6-5 and Dushevina answered Williams’ angle volley, with a running crosscourt backhand. But Venus got an early break in the third set and held on. The question that many fans are asking now is how bad the knee injury is, and will she be ready for her next match?
