More results to report you to now, as World Number 1 Dinara Safina safely made it through into the 3rd round of the Womens Draw at this year’s U.S Open championships.
As reported from Associated Press, Safina once again had to work for her victory, much like she did in the first round against Olivia Rogowska, but still proceeded into the 3rd round with a 6-7 (5/7), 6-2, 6-3 victory over Germany’s Kristina Barrois.

Barrois, who is ranked 67th in the rankings, did manage to take the first set-tie break, much like in Safina’s first round tie, but in the end Safina showed her class in the 2nd and 3rd sets.
Many people believe that Safina still has to prove herself as the best in the world, considering the fact that she has never won a Grand Slam, but is still ranked higher than the Williams sisters.
Lets hope that we can see a heated contest with 2nd seed and defending champion Serena Williams, who many people believe that she is the no.1 player, not Safina.
