Happy with who won America’s Got Talent 2009?

We mentioned in an earlier post that Kevin Skinner had become the winner of America’s Got Talent 2009, but did the chicken farmer deserve to win the talent contest. There are those who believe that his voice is not that good, and it was his dramatized story that made him the winner.

The country singer who walked away with $1 million will now headline a show in Las Vegas, a long way from his life in Mayfield, Kentucky. According to NY Daily News, Skinner said, “I’ve always loved to perform,” Skinner said. “I want to go out there, and give ‘em the best show I can.”

Happy with who won America’s Got Talent 2009?

Kevin Skinner is 35 and first went on the show and blew us all away, but as the show went on, his performance got worse, but the show’s producers played on his story. This show is a lot like other talent shows, and more often than not, it is the story and not the person that viewers vote for.

The show is titled “Americas Got Talent” NOT “Americas Got a Good Sob Story to Tell You” Hell, there’s alot more deserving contestants there that gave it there all and were definitely worthy of being Vegas Headliners. I can find the Kevin Skinners of the world by just walking into any little hick joint karaoke bar in the world. This is a travesty to the true talent that was on that stage

iam from kentucky and could show u 100 people in roadside bars who sing better!! he was given the pity vote!!! no doubt!!

  • Allie

i dont think he was the best act, but no one at the Hard Rock or Planet Hollywood would pay to see opera….not in Vegas Baby!!

  • Jason

There are alost of great country singers today. This guy doesn’t even fit in the category of a good country singer. This just lost my interest in the show entirely

I have nothing against Kevin – he’s the cinderella story come true. But did his talent deserve to win? Absolutely not. This was, in my humble opinion, american prejudice at its worse — americans wanted an ‘american’ to win and it came out loud and clear. The ‘good old boy’ syndrome at work here – and I am ashamed of my american neighbours — you were wrong this time. This idea of always supporting the underdog sometimes is wrong – as it was in this case.

Still, I wish Kevin the very best — he will probably make one album – take his million dollars and retire back home and consider himself a very lucky man — and he is. But a star – I’m afraid not!.

As for the others — I know we will be hearing from them again – you can’t keep good talent down and Barbara, Charles, Drew, Recycle Guys and the Texas Tenors (who should have won) will be here for a long time.

    America – grow up!

I think Kevin was ok but not the best, I liked THe Voices Of Glory better, they rocked :)

I definitely think that Kevin Skinner should not have won America’s Got Talent. He was the underdog the entire competition and many people voted for him only because they felt sorry for him. He is so NOT star material and I seriously doubt if he ever produces a CD. The fact that he won was a complete shame to all the other great talent on the show such as the opera singer and the young kids “Voices Of Glory”. Wake up America because you got it SERIOUSLY wrong this time around!!!!

i think the guys who do the slam dunks should have won…….they were CooL! this guy is weird!!!!!

  • momof4

You know, I usually watched the show the day after online, but even when I DID watch it on TV I never voted. How can we say, “America got it wrong this time” when most of us watching the show (in my opinion) didn’t even vote. We just assumed, since we thought it was obvious who should win, (and not win) then whoever ACTUALLY voted would too. Apparently not.

He did good considering that he wasn’t lipsynching. I saw a video of Britney Spears singing live without lipsynching over at TMZ.com and she sounded awful. She was a million times worse than Kevin. Plus with his story and the fact that we are in a recession he was able to win over people’s hearts. All of her college degrees in music, her beauty, and her voice training couldn’t beat Kevin’s heart.

I think that Kevin skinner is one of the worst singers my god!!! now he is going to do shows in Vegas,I would not go see him preform. my husband sounds better than him and that’s not saying much .what were these people thinking? He is not a Vegas performer not even close. Now the Texas tenors would be awesome to see in Vegas wow!!! I literally just cannot believe this man won.why would Vegas let this man preform? I would not trust Americas got Talent to send any of their winners to do a show for me, not after this…what a let down

  • barilee

I’m ok with Kevin. Most of the other acts will get
Headliners in vagus anyway and earn tons of money!
Since the judges state constantly that their show is about giving
The little giy a chance. Then I agree with America’s choice!

  • anon

I loved the Fab 5 and thought they should win. Skinner didn’t impress me at all. I agree, it’s about the story, and I wouldn’t mind it if the talent blew me away. Susan Boyle had a wonderful story and wonderful voice, thus I would’ve voted for her. Or Paul Potts – amazing story, amazing voice. Not decent story, decent talent. Blah.

    WHAT R U PEOPLE DOING..IS WRONG..WRONG..I SEE PREJUDICE IN THE SHOW..THANK YOU

  • flexit

Americas gone tone deaf! WOW, the show is a joke and always has been. I don’t watch it but I was the final show, if that was his best performance I’d like to know what he did or who to get that far. What a shame to all other competitors.

  • Gary Smith

I read The Texas Tenors are going to be in the Vegas show with Skinner. Thank god! They “are what the show is all about” TALENT! Thank goodness they are in the show at Planet Hollywood…now I might actually go see it!!!!! Does anyone know who else is in it?

  • Kelly

I really did not enjoy him at all, sorry but he was awful he won cause people felt bad cause he doesnt have a lot of money, like come on people its americas got talent not americas got no talent yet hes poor so i will vote for him.
I really preferred the opera singer she would have done very well in Vegas I would have honestly went to see her had she won agt. But no Mr Skinner won. Oh well.

  • Kelly

Oh and Gary Smith I actually liked the TEXAS TENORS :)
They were my favorite group besides voices of glory.
