Golf legend Arnold Palmer, who is now 80, is due to receive a US Congressional Gold Medal today and according to reports from AFP, he will be receiving it from US President Barack Obama, in the White House ceremony.
Palmer, who won seven major titles throughout his career, will be honored with the award, presented for distinguished achievements and contributions. Arnold helped popularize golf to both fans and players back in the 60’s.

Throughout his golfing career, Palmer won four Masters titles, two British Opens and a US Open crown. The only other golfer to have received the medal was Byron Nelson, who was posthumously honored in 2006.
