Glasgow was rolling out the red carpet today, ready for the 2009 MOBO Awards, which were being held tonight. The MOBO awards are classed as the biggest urban music award ceremony, in the whole of Europe.
This is the first time that Glasgow has hosted the award ceremony, which is there to celebrate music of black origin, in the event’s 14-year history. The 2009 event is being co-hosted by Radio 1’s Reggie Yates and Keri Hilson.
According to reports from news.stv.tv, despite being nominated, acts such as Akon, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, Beyonce and Eminem, will not be making an appearance at the SECC event.
Some people have criticized, saying that the drop in A-list stars attending this year’s event is because of the change of location. Although, the event founder Kanya King denied this and defended their decision to move.
