In 1492, Christopher Columbus landed on the Americas, which paved the way for the beginning of the new world. Columbus was not the first to reach America, but he was the first to begin contact between Europeans and indigenous Americans. Today is October 12, 2009, which means that it is Christopher Columbus Day.
