Christopher Columbus Day: How will you celebrate its history?

Their first idea is a bit boring; they suggest reading a Read Stephen Vincent Benet’s poem, “Christopher Columbus.” There are a number of Columbus Day parades going on in your town, great to have fun as well as enjoying the day with the people in your town.

If you love cooking, then you could prepare a meal that is based on what seaman of the 15th century would have eaten, such as salted fish, pork and beef. These are just a few ideas; let us know how you will be celebrating Columbus Day.

  • Ernest

Columbus should not be celebrated. He was a bad navigator and he raped the native women of the land. He was an idiot and a catalyst for the slave trade. Why do we celebrate him?

  • Anthony

Columbus was the greatest navigator the world has ever seen. He guided the three Spanish fleet into the complete unknown for Europeans. That is WHY people he is celebrated. You would all be back in Europe as serfs and peasants. His treatment of native Americans was no worse than those that followed.

  • Chistopher

Ernest, you are p_t head. Really. How would you know what Columbus did and do you even know where did he landed, would not even ask what year it was or who’s a Secretary of State is in US. Now, you may know who Karl Marx or Lenin were, may be Mao..but Columbus, God forbid…oops God is now in your mind anyway form or shape….because there is none….nada in your brain, which is smooth as your arss. Happy and Prosperous Columbus Day!!!

  • Carmel

Anthony you are so on the money. Yes Europeans would still be living in Europe as serfs and peasants and the world be a much safer place.

  • Brenda

there is so many things that Christopher Columbus did wrong and hurtful and the school dont mention them….so sad how the school hides the truth on who Christopher Columbus really is.

  • stan williams

    Columbus was an ??? HOLE.

So was Pol Pot and Idi Amin. Why don’t we have holidays for them ???

  • Anita Quintanilla

I will not be “celebrating” this Day of Mourning!! I believe that the Columbus Day holiday should be abolished! There is documented evidence that Columbus worked Natives to death. He butchered those who failed to meet their quota of gold and murdered and enslaved many others. He initiated the worst holocaust in world history. Italians have better candidates to represent their rich and proud heritage than this murderous Italian.

  • Sam

Yes, he was stupid and just terrible in general. He was brace though and should only be recognized for that, for not fearing what would come if he sailed east. but that isn’t a good enough reason to celebrate him. He did more good then bad.

    but~
then again we get to miss a day of school so its okay (:
