Xbox 360 vs. PS3 Sales: Playstation 3 leads by 1.5 million units

Playstation 3 consoles are ahead in the console race, beating out their closest rival in this day and age — the Xbox 360 — according to a post made by GamesThirst today.
Microsoft spoke to UK magazine MCV, and confidently stated that the console was leading by approx. 1 million units compared to the PS3. “We count the number of units in the hands of consumers. We are committed to continuing that momentum – not only in places like the UK, France and Germany. Continued growth in all parts of Europe is integral to winning overall.” Microsoft’s regional director boss Chris Lewis said.
But according to GamesThirst and their ‘so called research‘, where they link to Wikipedia, the PS3 is infact 1.5 million units ahead. The 360, as of August 14th 2009, sold 9 million Xbox 360s across Europe, and as of August 11th 2009, there were 10 million PS3s in European homes. Sony launched the new PS3 Slim on September 1st, 2009 with the 120GB version just half a month earlier which saw the price cut of older PS3 models by about $100.00.

LOL… here’s some statistical spin… take total xbox 360 sales to date and decrement the 33% failure rate… and you’ll see the PS3 has sold more than the 360 even if one were to decrement a 10% failure rate for the PS3… also, M$ counts RRoD replacement machines to retailers and direct as a sale… go figure… LOL

It’s a close tie, PS3 has been outselling the XBox in Europe for a very long time now, it’s been pretty much matching it in the UK, and recently outselling it.
Microsoft’s spin that they count consoles in consumers hands is totalBS, Whilst Microsoft UK might do that, Microsoft as a whole don’t they count what’s left their warehouses and send to retailers. Sony count units sold at retail (to consumers).
The other factor, is Sony break their regions down by TV standard, so the PAL region (which is Europe + Australia), Microsoft count Europe geographically.
All in all, I think Sony are the ones telling the truth here, the PS3 momentum in Europe is huge. However the global picture is different, with the Xbox leading by a couple of million.
This of course is all meaningless, as half the Xboxes have broken, many of them discarded and replacements (or PS3’s bought), so Microsoft saying 30m units sold really means perhaps 27m consoles in USE.
Well I don’t think there is a huge gap in quality between the Consoles and many people can probably afford both so it’s a win win allround for Sony and Microsoft and Nintendo

Has anybody with half a brain would know the 360 has far better processing power and detail in all its games,i personnally own both consoles and the experience i get on 360 is far superior than that of the ps3,the games play better look better and so on….The only thing the ps3 is good for is bluray movies,the internet is slow in comparison to having a computer,it takes far 2 long to load games updates etc…the playstation store is terrible,its all mixed together and when u download something it takes forever and day to do so.All i can say is the ps3 is sluggish slow and an extremely boring gaming experience.

To sean…you are probably on crack. I hope you do realize that unlike 360, Sony initially had the bad habit of handing the developers’ kits to the third party companies with considerably less time as their attempt to keep their technology under wraps. When you look at exclusives and compare you get to truly see the processing power. For example Killzone 2, MGS4, even Heavenly Sword (only complaint people had is that game was short, other than that, it was a masterpiece). Look at Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on both consoles and the vast superiority on the ps3’s version. As for multiplayer…resistance 2 easily playing with over 35+ people with 0 lag on my end….what connection speed you got?!? Only thing i will give you is the fact that XBL is organized, and even then the PS store is also improving on that aspect….oh wait it’s also free. you can say you own both consoles but i call bs, you’re just another xbot fanboy. Yes i only own a ps3 but guess what, i can appreciate the masterpiece that was gears of war 1 (2 was a letdown), i can appreciate mass effect and odst. although my main preference lies with mgs4, heavenly sword, KZ2, resistance 1-2, LBP (i know wierd but addicting), Demon’s Souls, uncharted 1-2. So yea, i call bulls…t on you saying you own both systems if you have no clue on what they are really capable of and point out the quality games.
Man I had ps2 and was a ps fan to the core once 360 came out and perfected the controller for a mans size hand and not a lil girls for ps3 and online socializing and gaming is killing ps3 my dad bought ps3 for blueray and I have played the same game on both systems ps3 controls suck and load times suck online suck and I know 360 owners 20 to 2 over ps3. Sales on ps3 are for blue ray its a cheap one who wouldn’t buy it but for gaming 360 is like kobe and ps3 like bill cartwright
i think the 360 is a better games machine if you wish to play online ….but the ps3 is a far better build quality ….rings of death and scratched discs come to mind and i am on my 3rd 360 ..still i love them both for what they do best they do well .both machines are not as well built as the first gen machines you do not cut back $100,s and gain in quality …sony and microsoft are only looking out for mr share holder.And has no love or loyalty like some mad fan based people on some forums who take brand loyalty to another level..how sad indeed
Microfony sucks they would deceive and manipulate the gamers making them think there the innocent corporation in the industry everyone knows they have a habit of monopolizing other small companies before they get to large Microfony are just afraid of the competition they don’t want the competition to get stronger that’s why they either buy them out or hostile take over.
