You can imagine Roland Emmerich gets asked about an Independence Day sequel every time he does press, and to be honest who doesn’t want to find out. Emmerich has a script written for the sequel. But that doesn’t mean you should count on seeing it any time soon.
According to Latino Review Emmerich said “it’s likely to happen with Fox, but there are a lot of money issues to work out first. FOX has not quite figured out how to incorporate all the package deals. Will wants to do it in some sort of a package they can live with.”
Fox actually suggested doing the movie without Will Smith, but Emmerich stopped that idea in its tracks. “I said Will is essential for us, for this movie and actually for the audience too. And, so, it’s in limbo and lately the studios are fighting.”
The problem that Fox has with Smith is, that he gets a percentage of the gross, making him an expensive star. To read more on this story go to cinemablend.com. Do you think they can make a sequel without Will Smith?
