Def Jam Records celebrated at VH1 Hip Hop Honors

The 2009 “VH1 Hip Hop Honors” took place last night and many of the hip hop world’s biggest stars gathered at the event, to celebrate someone being recognized as a “VH1 Hip Hop Honors” inductee. But this year, the event apparently broke new ground.

According to mtv.com, instead of it being an act such as LL Cool J or Grandmaster Flash, it was an entire record label that got honored. The record label we are talking about is Def Jam Records, which is 25-years old and was founded by Rick Rubin.

But with this record label being the most influential rap imprint in history, is it any wonder it was chosen for a VH1 Hip Hop Honors.” And it was LL Cool J’s music that kicked off last night’s event, as he was the face of Def Jam Records for many years.

There were some great performances at the televised event, by acts such as Rick Ross, Eminem, Public Enemy, The Roots, Gym Class Heroes, Foxy Brown, Mary J. Blige, Method Man, Ludacris, Ghostface, Trey Songz and many, many more.
