Pro Wrestler Captain Lou Albano Dies at 76

If I say the name Captain Lou Albano, many of you won’t know who I am talking about. But for many pro-wrestling fans, especially ones of a certain age, they will know exactly who Captain Lou Albano is. After all, he helped wrestling be what it is today.

But according to mtv.com, the World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Famer, sadly died on Wednesday morning, October 14th, at the age of 76. Reports say that he had apparently been in a hospice earlier in the week, but it is not known how he died.

Captain Lou Albano entered the world of wrestling in the late 1950’s, but his four-decade wrestling career didn’t kick off, until he created the tag team, that was known as the Sicilians. It was within that team, that he played a stereotypical Italian gangster.

It was during the 1980’s, that he managed some of wrestling’s best stars such as Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan. But what brought him his worldwide fame, was the decision to mix wrestling with music and launching the so-called “Rock n’ Wrestling” era.

He will be sadly missed by many in the pro-wrestling world.
