The city of Rio who are holding the 2016 Olympics are facing the consequences after a recent ‘wave of violence’ spread throught one of the slums which left 14 for dead.
According to the Mayor, the 2016 Olympic committee were aware of the problems in the city, and have vowed to rectify them.
The violence broke out in a firefight between rival drug gangs on Saturday in the Morro dos Macacos which translates as “Monkey Hill,” five miles southwest of one of the zones where the Olympics will be held in seven years.
A helicopter was hit by a bullet, in which the copter then spiralled to the ground killing two officers and injuring four more. The World Cup will be staged two years prior to the Olympics.
Although these are safely concerns for Rio, lets not forget a day after London won the bid for the 2012 Olympics the city was attacked by four suicide bombers, who bombed the subway killing 52 people.
