New York Yankees vs. Philadelphia Phillies 2009:

The 2009 World Series will be the 105th edition of Major League Baseball’s championship series between Philadelphia Phillies who are champions of National League, and the New York Yankees, champions of the American League.

The World Series will be the best of seven The Series is scheduled to start on October 28th, and will be a rematch of the 1950 series in which the Yankees beat the Phillies 4-0. This is only the third time the series will finish out side of the month of October. The first was in 1918 which was played in September due to World War 1.

The other was of course in 2001, when the September 11 attacks on the United States caused a delay in the season, this eventually forced the end of the Series into November. The Phillies are seeking to repeat as World Series champions. And this will be Yankees 40th World Series appearance in franchise history.
