Bob Griese, an ESPN broadcaster who slurred a comment aimed at Columbian Juan Pablo Montoya when viewing a graphic of the top five drivers in NASCAR’s points race has been suspended for his comment made live on air.
During ESPN’s broadcast of the Minnesota-Ohio State game Saturday, Fellow ESPN analyst Chris Spielman asked where Juan Pablo Montoya was, to which Griese replied [he was] “out having a taco.”
Bob Griese has spoke to ESPN officials and is aware that the comment he made was “inappropriate”. He has also apologized on air twice for making the remark. Montoya is declining to comment about the situation citing he has never heard of Bob Griese.

We have become so weak skinned. You aren’t allowed to say anything remotely ethnic about any so-called minority. This was not a “racial slur”. There was no intent to denegrate. I’m sure Griese isn’t racist but, what comes to mind when someone mentions a name or place is often a knee-jerk reaction. Something that should have been left un-said. Not something for the “politically correct” to go for the jugular!
Who cares. As long as he brought back enough tacos for both of them!
Unfair for Griese to make a taco remark and get screwed, while TV en Espanol shows racist comedy all the time, here in the USA, for example, google MEXMUNDOVISION for a taste of ‘comedy’ blasting the African race.
