It looks like the Rev. Bernice King, who is the daughter of late civil rights leader Martin Luther King, is following in her famous father’s footsteps. Bernice has been chosen to head the civil rights organization, which was co-founded by her father.
According to reports from gather.com, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference made the announcement on Friday morning, that they had indeed elected Bernice as their president. It is the first time a woman has been chosen to head the group.
The organization was said to have held a closed-door meeting sometime on Thursday, in Atlanta. General Counsel Dexter Wimbish said that the ballots were tallied by an independent third party and they were then unsealed on the Friday.
