Sir Anthony Hopkins joins cast of Thor

According to Variety Sir Anthony Hopkins is the latest star to join in the cast for Kenneth Branagh’s movie Thor. The star of Silence of the Lambs will play Odin in the film version of the Marvel comic book.

Hopkins will play the father of the title character, in Branagh’s film, which begins production in January ahead of its 2011 release. Chris Hemsworth plays Thor and Natalie Portman plays Jane Foster. Thor first appeared in Marvel’s comics in 1962

The film sees Thor banished to Earth after reigniting an ancient war. He then comes to humanity aid, as invaders come from his homeland of Asgard. Even though Sir Anthony is 71-years-old there are no signs of the Oscar-winning star slowing down as he can next be seen in a horror remake The Wolfman, opposite Benicio Del Toro and Emily Blunt.

Hopkins was also seen this summer working in London on Woody Allen’s as yet untitled new film. To read more on this story go to news.bbc.co.uk. What is the best role you have seen Sir Anthony Hopkins star in? Let us know your thoughts.
