When Philadelphia residents opened their local newspaper, and was greeted with the message: – “CONGRATULATIONS PHILLIES! BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPS,” they must have rubbed their eyes in disbelief, or thought they had majorly overslept.
Underneath the caption was a picture of the Phillies’ championship T-Shirt, as if they had won the series which was obviously a big blunder in the publishing for the newpaper. Macy’s, who referred all comments to the Inquirer then posted an apology on its website yesterday afternoon.
“A Macy’s advertisement in today’s Inquirer incorrectly offered Phillies 2009 World Championship merchandise. The Inquirer deeply regrets this error. Macy’s is a great corporate citizen, supporter of this region and our sports teams. We apologize for this error and any inconvenience this caused.”
This is not the first time a mistake such as this has been reported, as at the start of the American League Championship Series, Yankees and Angels championship paraphernalia had appeared on the MLB’s website. Although Twitter was flooded with the news, the comments were not responded to, and then miraculously disappeared off the website some time later.
