Sony PlayStation are being sued by two gamers, one from Texas and one from Iowa for rendering their Sony PS3 games consoles inoperable due to the 3.0 or 3.01 system updates that were released in September.
“Bricked” is a term that is used by gamers, that when they receive system updates via Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network, their console becomes nothing more than a door stop. Unable to use the system’s due to a software or hardware error depending on the situation.
According to the ‘victims,’ they were unable to use the console’s blue-ray drive and had controller issues causing the consoles to malfunction. When they phoned Sony, they were told the errors were coincidental and that they would have to pay the hefty $150 repair bill. No said the gamers, who have now filed a lawsuit against the company.
The fact of the matter is, these updates are mandatory to continue to use the console. Most new game releases will require the update to be installed before the game can be played. Sony PlayStation have yet to comment on the situation.

I had a feeling it was the 3.00 update that broke my PS3.. one week after I updated my ps3 to 3.00 it began freezing and turning off on its own.. a few days later it completed shut down and wouldn’t want to turn on anymore.. I went on line and to my supprise there were a lot of people that had there ps3 crash in a matter of a couple of months after the release of the new update.. I believe that the update was meant for the new slim, and with it using up less power it probably affected how the older models perform.. just my guess.. Luck for me I knew how to fix my PS3 for free and took less then 1 hour =)
My bluray drive broke as well. It seems like the gears are stripping and it happened after the firmware upgrade. Its interesting that it does it only after the console has been used for a while and after a few hours of no power supply it will work fine on reactivation.
The playstation 3 is rubbish really
i suggest a wii & for the good graphics a pc
i am so happy sony is going to finsh
hope they fail which gives room for sega to bring there console
My son bought a new ps3 game and in order for him to play that game online, the system was telling him to update ps3.
After download, ps3 stop reading game cd.
This is really a big screw up by Sony. May be they want to make more money on repairs!!!!
Anybody got the phone # of the president of Sony, so that I can call him and tell that what is all this going on.

i think it was a system update gone wrong since my ps3 has ver. 3.15 already it was probably 3.20 or 4.0 and they activated it and it caused the network to fail. right now the network is green , but my ps3 won't connect.
