Precious Movie In Theaters Now: Armond White not impressed

The new Lee Daniels “Precious” movie, which is about a sexually abused teenage girl and is based on the “Push” novel by Sapphire, open is movie theaters today. The movie has already been racking up film festival awards and is heavily endorsed by Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry.

But according to latimes.com, “Precious” has just received a bit of a nasty thrashing from The New York Press’ politically incorrect film critic Armond White. He has not only criticized gifted black filmmaker Lee Daniels, but also taken a stab at Perry and Oprah.

Speaking about the movie, White said “Precious is an orgy of prurience…Not since ‘Birth of a Nation’ has a mainstream movie demeaned the idea of black American life as much as ‘Precious’.” But that is just his opinion and people will have to watch the movie for themselves.

    i read this book a long time ago and when i heard they were making a film i was so excited. and now its the release date and the movie is not only playing in a theater near me, but not anywhere in my state!! i live in minneapolis Minnesota and so many people here are upset because we are missing the opportunity to see such a great touching film.. something has to be done.. what can we do.. nobody should miss out on this opportunity!

    Why isn’t Precious playing in or around Pittsburgh. I was very disappointed to find out that it isn’t playing here. That’s why a lot of people resort to bootleg movies because they don’t open in our city.

    Why isn’t Precious being shown in Philadelphia? I am upset that the closest theater is in New York City.

    I was disappointed and surprised to find out that Precious is not playing in Baltimore either. I saw that some more theaters will start playing the movie on Friday so I would check back and see if it is playing then. This is soo frustrating.

    The movie Precious is playing in Minnesota. Call moviephone at 651-777-3456 for locations. Its only playing at a few locations such as The Lagoon, a couple of the Dales and Brooklyn Center. Surprisingly not the movies at MOA.

    I have never read the book but am excited to see the movie. I hope it lives up to the hype.
