The most famous man in American football had to settle for second best, as Real Salt Lake beat LA Galaxy in a penalty shoot out yesterday. To be honest the best team lost the game, and I believe going into the world cup in 2010 the league needed photos of Beckham and Donovan with the trophy.
The 2009 MLS Cup was shaping up to be a classic; however the dream turned into a nightmare for Galaxy. It didn’t start out so poorly for LA. After scoring a goal to take a 1-0 lead, thanks in large part to the play of Beckham and Donovan with Mike Magee getting on the end of a Donovan cross then things stopped going the Galaxy way. In the second half LA goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts collided with former Galaxy forward Robbie Findley, who had to come of with a broken hand. Findley scored the equalizer for Real Salt Lake.
The game seemed destined for penalty kicks. it was clear the underdog had a sudden and decided advantage. RSL won the penalty shoot out 5-4 and in just their fifth year of existence, won their first MLS Cup. To read more on this story go to sportingnews.com. Did you watch the game?
