Dame Julie Andrews back on stage in Britain after 20 years

The stage is alive with the sound of music, or so it has been reported. Dame Julie Andrews is to perform on stage in Britain for the first time in 20 years, even though an operation had impaired her voice.

According to reports the 74-year-old Oscar winner will sing up to five solo songs, as well as joint performances with other artists at the O2 arena in London next May. Dame Julie who is best known for her leading role in the 1965 film musical, The Sound of Music, has rarely sung since she had surgery to remove non-cancerous nodes from her vocal chords in 1997 limited her impressive range.

The operation ruined her soprano voice. She has recently expressed interest in a new treatment that can help repair vocal chords. Last year she hosted a series of concerts in the United States, but rarely sang on her own. Dame Andrews manager Steve Sauer, told the newspaper: “Julie cannot sing as she once did. Fortunately she has subsequently been able to regain some of the notes she was once well known for. The show will be a beautifully woven blend of her singing along with her guest stars.”
