Liverpool crash out of Champions league

Liverpool’s Champions league dreams are over for this year, and very possibly next year also. The reds crashed out despite winning 1-0 in Hungary against Debrecen. Fiorentina beat Lyon by the same score line to seal their fate.

Rafael Benitez will come under enormous pressure, and perhaps the only positive to emerge from the miserable night for Liverpool was, the assured performance of his players, who will be left scratching their heads as to how they did not win the game by more goals after a dominant display which kept the Reds camped in the final third.

Frenchman David N’Gog got the match winner, the understudy to injured striker Fernando Torres. N’Gog flicked the ball home from 2 yards in the fourth minute. Liverpool puffed and painted, however when it came to the final third the final ball, just wasn’t good enough. Benitez will need to pick his players up fast, as they face their neighbours Everton in the Merseyside derby this weekend.
