According to recent news reports from AFP, the world’s No. 1 tennis player Serena Williams received a record fine of $175,000 and two years probation today, for her outburst in the 2009 US Open final against Kim Clijsters, over a foot fault call.
The punishments for the incident, which were handed down by the International Tennis Federation’s Grand Slam committee, could result in a US Open suspension for Williams, if she commits another major violation in a Grand Slam event in 2010 and 2011.

If Williams stays on good behavior over the next two seasons, she could see the $175,000 fine reduced to $82,500. The fine amount was said to have included $10,000 that Serena paid the US Tennis Association after the incident in September.
