Thierry Henry Handball Under Investigation by FIFA

Thierry Henry’s double handball that kept the ball in play, before he crossed to William Gallas to knock the Republic of Ireland out the World Cup qualifiers is apparently going under investigation from FIFA, and will be referred to the disciplinary committee.

If the 32-year-old Barcelona player is found guilty of any wrongdoing, he could miss the start of next summer’s World Cup finals.

The incident also sparked huge controversy on the state of the technology currently in the game, and whether to use goaline technology and a five-referee system.

Ireland fought back, and pushed for a replay, and the FAI also asked FIFA to consider letting them enter the finals as a 33rd team, but their claims were rejected by FIFA.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter said “I have not said that Thierry Henry will be punished, I have said that Thierry Henry will be examined by the disciplinary committee of Fifa. This is a matter of the disciplinary committee and it’s not a question of this player or another – it was a blatant unfair playing and was shown all around the world, but I don’t know what the outcome will be.”

Do you think Henry should be punished? If he is found of wrongdoing, then why isn’t something done to facilitate Ireland for the World Cup next summer? Have your say.

Henry should be taken off from the French Team before World Cup 2010. It was disgusting watching the blatant foul on TV, of a crucial match.

FIFA will be a joke if they do not rectify the mistake made by the referee. If there is no replay or no compensation then there should be no Henry at the prestigeous world cup.

Such a thing is never allowed in my country, where soccer is popular with most Singaporean especially the young.

I would say blame the system, blame the referees, it is not up to the player to judge.
