Reggae Singer Buju Banton Arrested for Possession of Drugs

It looks like Jamaican reggae singer Buju Banton, is being surrounded by controversy yet again. According to reports from thaindian.com, the reggae star was arrested on Thursday last week, on the charges of illegal possession of drugs with intent to distribute.

Banton, whose real name is in fact Mark Anthony Myrie, is said to be in the custody of the federal police of the United States in Miami at the present time. And reports say that the authorities have decided to transfer him to Tampa soon.

The singer was apparently discovered with more than 5 kilograms of cocaine on him. It is now being predicted, that Buju might be awarded a sentence of up to 20 years of imprisonment. This is not the first time he has had a run in with the law either.

A few years ago, Banton was arrested on the charges of beating up six men at Kingston, but the case was dismissed due to lack of evidence. And another time, he was apparently fined $9,000 after officials discovered he was growing marijuana plants.
