Oscar Academy Award winner Jennifer Jones has died aged 90, leaving behind her surviving son Robert Walker Jr, who was with her by her side when she passed away Thursday of natural causes.
Jennifer Jones rose to fame in classic Hollywood movies such as The Song of Bernadette, Love is a Many-Splendid Thing and Portrait of Jennie, and won an Oscar at the age of 25 for her role in as a saintly nun in Bernadette, and quickly became one of the biggest stars of the 1940’s and 1950’s. She last appeared in a film called The Towering Inferno in a cameo performance in 1974.
She was originally born Phylis Lee Isley, and met her first husband Robert Walker at the New York Academy of Dramatic Arts where she was studying. She was then groomed for superstardom and changed her name to Jennifer Jones after auditioning for a movie that David O. Selznick was in charge of. Selznick and Jones both engaged in a lengthy affair, to whom she them married until Selznick’s death in 1965. Jones then went on to marry industrialist and art collecter Norton Simon, who died in 1993.
Memorial services are expected to be a private matter, but Jennifer Jones gets our prayers here at In Entertainment.
