Simon Cowell’s reaction to Rage Against The Machine win

Simon Cowell has issued a statement, following on from Rage Against The Machine’s victory over Joe McElderry in the race to this year’s Christmas Number One in the UK.

As reported from the BBC, Cowell has offered his congratulations to Jon and Tracy Morter, the couple behind the Facebook campaign which caused the upset.

Initially, Cowell had said that the campaign was ‘stupid’, but has said this in a statement while on holiday: “I called Jon on Saturday to congratulate the two of them that, win or lose, they turned this into a very exciting race for the Christmas number one.”

He also said he was gutted for Joe, but maintains that he is very proud of him and has a ‘great year ahead of him’. Let us know what you think of his comments.

    ah finally a proper artist won.
    one who writes their own songs and plays their own instruments.

    I can only think of 1 way this could have turned out better… if Joe wasnt in the top 3. Who wants to hear a miley cyrus song repeated over and over again? and if u do, keep it to urself. I agree he can sing, so can millions of other ppl. what makes him so special? nothing. how can he even be passionate about a song that wasnt written for him?

    why shud he hv won? he basically won a huge hyped up karaoke comptetion. i would feel sad for him but not after what he said about RATM.

    Another reason to be happy is bcos Simon is sad that he lost. He wants to own most of the ppl in number 1 position of the charts. He still hasnt congratulated the band that beat Joe. However, at least Joe did congratulate RATM afterwards.

    and if ur complaining about “real music not winning” then u know how i feel for the past 4 yrs.
