Roger Federer and Serena Williams: ITF’s World Champions 2009

The International Tennis Federation chose Roger Federer and Serena Williams, as its world champions of 2009 yesterday. Federer, who is in fact receiving the award for the 5th time, regained his No. 1 ranking from Rafael Nadal this year.

And according to sportsillustrated.cnn.com, Roger also completed a career Grand Slam by winning the French Open, and captured a record 15th major title when he won at Wimbledon, proving that he is definitely a deserving winner.

Williams on the other hand, will be receiving the ITF honor for a second time. She won the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year, to bring her career total of Grand Slam titles to 11. Winners will receive their awards at the annual dinner on June 1st 2010.
