Thousands of football fans watched yesterday, as Liverpool’s Fernando Torres scored a goal and took Liverpool to a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa, in their Premier League game. As he scored the goal, Reds boss Rafael Benitez punched the air with delight.
According to reports from dailyrecord.co.uk, Spanish striker Torres managed to strike deep in injury time with a low shot across the goal keeper Brad Friedel, to become the fastest player in the team’s history to rack up 50 league goals for the club.

And thanks to Torres’ goal, Liverpool has now been hauled up to seventh spot – only two points behind Aston Villa and only four adrift of Spurs. Benitez praised Fernando Torres, saying that he is a very good player and that his record is amazing.
In the meantime, Aston Villa’s manager Martin O’Neill just held his head in his hands, knowing that his team had just been robbed of a chance to pile further pressure on the top four teams. Villa made a promising start, but it obviously wasn’t enough.
