With the 2010 African Cup of Nations now underway, we will start bringing you the results as they come in. And we can start, by bringing you the results of the match between Algeria, who are due to play the US in the opening round of the 2010 World Cup, and Malawi.
The match took place yesterday in what can only be described as a largely deserted stadium, with Malawi taking a 3-0 victory over Algeria, who was champions back in 1990. Algeria appeared to struggle against Malawi, whose only previous appearance was 1984.

Malawi managed to win for the first time in the tournament, with Russell Mwafulirwa opening the scoring after just 17 minutes by blasting a left-footed shot into an empty net. Bryson Kafoteka then scored a header in the 36th minute, and Davi Banda finished it off.
The result of yesterday’s game, now means that Malawi leads Group A with three points, which is two ahead of Angola and Mali, who tied 4-4 in the opening game on Sunday. Algeria coach Rabah Saadane, said that the team still has a chance to progress.
