Wyclef Jean and Haiti earthquake 2010: Urging donations

Platinum-selling rapper and record producer Wyclef Jean, who is a native son of Haiti himself, has decided to lead the charge to help his devastated homeland. And according to csmonitor.com, he is doing it through his Twitter account.

The former Fugees star has taken to his Twitter account recently, to urge people to donate $5 to Haitian charity Yele Haiti. People can donate by texting YELE to 501501. The donation then gets charged to your cellphone bill.

In a statement, Jean said “I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse.” He then went on to say that people must act now and that Haiti needs our prayers and thoughts.

Jean is now on his way to Haiti via the neighboring island of Dominican Republic, and has asked people to pray for both him and the island of Haiti. Wyclef’s website Yele Haiti actually crashed this morning, due to the amount of traffic.
