2010 Eclipse Awards: Godolphin and Goldikova honored

The 39th Annual Eclipse Awards took place last night and according to racingpost.com, it was Europe that enjoyed success at Monday night’s ceremony, when dual Breeders’ Cup Mile-winner Goldikova was announced the winner in the female turf horse category.
Goldikova, who is trained by Freddie Head, received 172 votes in the female turf horse category, managing to get 131 more votes than the runner-up Ventura. The Horse of the Year award went to Rachel Alexandra, who received every one of 232 first place votes.
Godolphin Racing, who had a brilliant second half of the season in the United States, was also honoured at last night’s ceremony. They received the award for Outstanding Owner, while Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms won the Leading Breeder award.
Gio Ponti, the horse that managed to finish in 2nd place to Zenyatta in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, scooped two awards last night. One award was in the older male category, while the second award was in the male turf horse category.
