We have some great news for all you Vampire Weekend fans out there now, as according to a report at reuters.com, the New York band have managed to replace Ke$ha at the No. 1 spot on the U.S. pop album charts.
Vampire Weekend’s second album, which is titled “Contra” and was only released last week, sold 124,000 copies during its first week on sale, according to Nielsen SoundScan data for the week that ended on 17th January.

The second album appears to be outdoing the quartet’s self-titled first album, which debuted and peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 back in 2008, after selling just 28,000. The tally for that album, now stands at 498,000.
Their album “Contra,” was the only debut album in the top 10, with the second-highest entry being “Ollusion” from rapper Omarion at No. 19, having sold 19,000 copies. Susan Boyle’s “I Dreamed a Dream” held on to No. 2.
