Footballer Salvador Cabanas of Paraguay Shot During Bar Attack

A recent news report from espn.go.com, has confirmed that Paraguay striker Salvador Cabanas has been left in a serious condition recently, after he was shot in the head during an attack in a bar in the south of Mexico City, where he was visiting with family and friends.

Prosecutor Miguel Angel Mancera spoke to the news channel Televisa, and said that Cabanas was shot in the head. According to an initial report, it was believed that the bullet was shot from a firearm with a frontal entry point, and without any exit.

Mancera went on to say, that they don’t know what the motive was behind the injury. Salvador is said to be conscious, but apparently has a heart problem that they are trying to stabilise. The attack is reported to have happened in the bathroom of the bar.

Cabanas is a great goal scorer, who plays for Primera Division de Mexico side Club America, scoring 18 goals in the 24 matches played this season. He is also an integral part of Paraguay’s national side and was expected to play in the 2010 World Cup.

Michel Bauer, president of Club America, revealed that Cabanas was undergoing surgery. He also added, that having spoken to Salvador’s wife who was with the striker at the time he was attacked, he now feels that the attack on Cabanas was unprovoked.
