It looks like gay rights activists may well have been given a reason to celebrate recently, after Grammy-nominated, controversial reggae star Buju Banton was beaten by Stephen Marley to the award for the Best Reggae Album.
According to a report at abcnews.go.com, after hearing the news that jailed singer Buju had in fact been nominated for the Best Reggae Album award, gay rights groups took out a full page advert protesting the honoring of such an artist.

Members of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center urged the organizers of the event to denounce Buju’s “hateful work,” which they say promotes the murder of gay people.
And according to a report at contactmusic.com, the protest piece appears to have worked for them, because Banton’s “Rasta Got Soul” album was in fact beaten to the award by Stephen Marley’s “Mind Control Acoustic” album.
The 36-year old reggae singer unfortunately missed the biggest night in the music industry last night, because he is currently behind bars in Tampa, Florida following his drugs bust in December 2009. He is currently awaiting trial.
