As many of you will know, there were quite a few different ads aired during Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIV game. But it is one ad in particular that appears to be causing a bit of a backlash – the Irvine HDTC company Vizio’s ad.
It was kind of hard to avoid Vizio at the 2010 Super Bowl game on Sunday, as the company was obviously a major sponsor of the football game with its sponsorship of the pre-game show, as well as the field camera and numerous commercials.
But according to a report at freedomblogging.com, their big Super Bowl spot, which featured singer Beyonce, failed to impress many critics. But I think some may say that it definitely wasn’t the worst commercial out of all of them.
Vizio apparently brought in Wally Pfister, who is the cinematographer for both “The Dark Knight” and “Batman Begins” movies, to create an advert for its new VIA TV’s, short for Vizio Internet Apps TV’s.
And what they got was a mechanical arm, handpicking familiar Internet “content” – from Internet celebrities such as the overweight guy lip synching “Numa Numa,” to singer Beyonce, the Dramatic Beaver and the Twitter bird.
The Internet critics were quite harsh about the ad, with one site describing it as “quite disturbing,” while another said it was a “swing and a miss.” Entertainment Weekly even criticized Vizio, for failing to get its point across in the ad.
