K.D. Lang Sings ‘Hallelujah’: Opening Ceremony of 2010 Winter Olympics

As we have already mentioned this morning, the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics officially kicked off last night, with the Opening Ceremony. The event was officially opened by Governor General Michaelle Jean.

Now for those of you who actually watched it, you would know that it was a spectacular show, with some great performances. And that is exactly where I come in, to talk about one of the performances in particular.

K.D. Lang Sings ‘Hallelujah’: Opening Ceremony of 2010 Winter Olympics

And the performance I want to talk about is the one from Kathryn Dawn Lang, who is more popularly known by her stage name – K.D. Lang. According to a report from 24masti.com, Lang sang Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”

The song “Hallelujah,” was originally written by Canadian singer and songwriter Leonard Cohen, back in 1984 and has been covered not only by K.D. Lang, but also Jeff Buckley and X Factor’s Alexandra Burke.

Although Lang’s version was quite well done, absolutely nobody, nobody, can do justice to the song like the late Jeff Buckley. His version will make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. I find Lang’s a little whiny.

Nobody can do justice to that song like the late Jeff Buckley. His is brilliant, making the hair stand up on the back of your neck.

K.D. Lang’s version of Cohen’s song was MAGNIFICENT. No one – Canadian or other international – could have done a more spectacular job. Passionate, talented, and CANADIAN, KD Lang did herself, and our nation, proud. Jeff Buckley fans, maybe clean out your ears! He’s fine, but KD Lang’s was EXTRAORDINARY.

I’m not familiar with Buckley’s music, but I have been a fan of and followed K.D. Lang’s career for more than 20 years. She has, as always, astounded me with her amazing talent and her stunning voice. This Leonard Cohen song was incredibly touching. I am proud to be a Canadian and exceptionally amazed by another Canadian performing for our country at the 2010 Olympic games.

I was moved to tears when I heard K.D perform Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah for the Olympic’s in my Vancouver.. Leonard has been in a part of my life since the 60′s and has guided me in many of my life decisions good or bad.
When I first watched KD run down for her award in a wedding dress I laughed at her antics but over the years I have watched this incredible human being move through challenging moments in her life to be the person she is today and her voice and demeanor allows us to witness this incredible talent as she was able to interpret Leonard’s song and move us on this wonderful night of the opening of the 2010 Olympics. Thank you Leonard Cohen and KD Lang for this contribution.

I was sleeping in my couch, common in law by my side watching the opening of the Olympic games opening when k.d. Lang star to sing I woke up in instant and I fell in love with her voice… absolutely stunning.

Where can I view the video of kd langs opening ceremony performance????

  • K9

Others have performed it, and it’s such a great song that I find I like all of them. But to say that K.D. did the song justice would be an injustice. It wasn’t good, it was unbelievably fantastic, and appropriate for the Olympics. Cohen is brilliant of course, and his music in the hands of the right artist makes for songs that are unforgetable. Ms. Lang must have made Canada very proud, of her, of their opening Ceremony, and the fact that this was so much different than China (which was incredible for sight and sound), but in it’s own way it was so much better… personal like it was intended to be. I’m amazed thus far just how well everything is being handled in Vancouver, and when it’s not one of our American atheletes, I’m cheering Canada on.

Thanks Canada, and of course, Ms. Lang.
